Comparing the family life between Japan and New Zealand

I was very interested in the family life of New Zealand, so I want to know the family life eating habits and family relationship through comparing Japanese with New Zealand. Then, I investigated the life style through referring to some books and thought about the way of life. I also referred the internet, and I could find some interesting feature. Then I will go there in next spring vacation, and I want to study in fact.
Firstly, I will talk about the eating habits in New Zealand and Japan. Now there are many original home cooking in Japan, for example, sushi, tempura, natto, umeboshi and so on. Sushi is especially very famous in the world I also like it. In my breakfast, I always eat rice, miso soup, fried egg and umeboshi. On the other hand, there are few original home-cooking in New Zealand. So, if I was asked the famous home-cooking in New Zealand, I couldn’t answer the question because I don’t know it. It is said that there are two reasons. One reason is that New Zealand’s culture was maid by English pioneers. Many years ago, New Zealand was one of the colonies of England, so now home-cooking in New Zealand is not original, but it is way of English. Therefore, most ingredients of cooking were from Europe. Another reason is that the island is fertile, so they could supply their own foods. It is said that there are few original cooking, but New Zealand recently started to accept many immigrants, so there are many kinds of eating habits in New Zealand. I think this is very interesting change in New Zealand.
Secondly, I will talk about the life time in the house between Japan and New Zealand. I wanted to know how New Zealanders spend free time with family. Although Japan has many laws for women now, the customs of phallocentric is still left. Phallocentric means the idea of men superior to women. This is an old way in Japan but it is still left. For example, in my house, my father always goes to work, and my mother always does the house working. This is the typical life style in Japan. Another feature of Japanese culture is that the time spending with family is shorter than any other countries. My father also goes to work place very early, and he comes back home at midnight, so I couldn’t see him at weekdays. It is also said that children’s hours of sleep is too short and divorces are increasing. Therefore I can learn about the Japanese family relationships gradually weaken. Comparing with these things, in New Zealand, men also work more than women like Japan. However husbands’ working time is shorter than Japan and they tend to spend with their family more than Japan. These points differ from Japan.
Finally, I will talk about the divisions of roles between husband and wife. I want to think about three viewpoints, cooking, clearing the table after meals and cleaning. First thing is witch person cook dinner wife or husband. In Japan, husbands who cook dinner only one day in a week are 20%. In New Zealand, 30% of all husbands cook dinner three or four days in each week. That is to say, most of Japanese husbands usually don’t cook dinner, but most New Zealand’s husbands cook dinner at least one day in a week. My house is also my father has never cooked our dinner, my mother or my grand father always makes our dinner. Second thing is that cleaning the table after meals and dinner, New Zealand’s husbands are also better than Japanese because Japanese husbands don’t clean the table after the dinner but most New Zealanders clean the table. Third thing is cleaning. While 56 percent Japanese husbands don’t clean at home, 75 percent of all husbands clean their home in New Zealand. Therefore, I felt Husbands in New Zealand are more cooperative than Japanese.
According to these things, New Zealand’s husbands are more cooperative to house working than Japan and they take over the potion of their house work. This summer, I couldn’t go to New Zealand but I will go to New Zealand next spring vacation. And then, I want to study the New Zealand’s home affairs and I will compare New Zealand with Japan. Through this investigation, I felt Japanese husbands should be cooperative to housework as if they were busy. I think it can be one of the way that family makes a good relationship. [753 words]
